No — moissanite is its own gemstone (silicon carbide), discovered in 1893 in a meteor crater by Henri Moissan. Natural moissanite is so rare it has no jewelry value, so every stone you'll ever see is lab-grown. It's not an imitation of anything; it's its own thing, with a different hardness, refractive index, and dispersion to diamond.

Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale — second only to diamond (10). Sand, glass, steel, and quartz can't scratch it. It will not cloud, yellow, or lose brilliance — those are problems unique to lower-grade CZ. With normal wear, expect a moissanite piece to look identical at year 20 to year 1.

Moissanite is harder to grow than CZ — the process takes weeks of high-temperature lab synthesis per stone, versus hours for CZ. The crystal structure is different, the cutting is more demanding, and VVS-grade rough is graded the same way diamond is. Expect 5–10× CZ pricing for a stone that lasts 10–50× longer.

Yes — and not as a gimmick. The standard handheld jeweller's tester measures thermal conductivity. Diamond conducts heat in a specific signature, and so does moissanite, because the underlying physics of its lattice lands in the same range. Every piece in this collection will register "diamond" on a standard probe. Try it at a jeweller. We'll wait.

Our moissanite pieces use plated 18K white gold over sterling silver. Plating thickness is industry-leading (2.5 microns) — expect 3–5 years before the plating shows wear under daily contact. We offer free re-plating for the life of the piece. Solid 18K white gold is available on request for select pieces (engagement-grade) — adds roughly 30% to the piece price.

Warm water, a drop of dish soap, a soft toothbrush. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners on plated pieces (they wear the plating faster). Avoid chlorine, bleach, and perfumes in direct contact with the metal. A polish cloth between deeper cleans keeps the stone reading clear.
